Love or Not

Viv went back home very early the next morning, still feeling every bit of the night before. They had lain together in the dark room, cuddling, saying nothing. Eventually Christina broke the silence.

“How was that?” she asked, referring to the mind-blowing sex they just had.

Viv couldn’t find the words to describe what they had just shared. Christina held on for so long, serving her pleasure in such tiny doses that it could have been nothing short of torture, but she never felt pleasure like that before. She kept climbing higher and higher, until it was unbearable, and even then, Christina was still stroking, torturing, teasing. Christina was a master of her game, Viv concluded. That was the only way she could bring so much pleasure, pain, and more pleasure at the same time. Viv smiled sheepishly at the memory . . . what was that part about Christina not letting Viv touch her? Viv still found that part confusing.

She made a mental note to ask Christina, when they met the next day. As she thought about it, she felt the void: she was missing Christina terribly already.

“Incredible. Incredible,” she had answered, and as if that didn’t do it justice, she added, “That was simply incredible.” It was the only word she could think of. She wished she had a stronger, better one because incredible was an understatement.

She threw her purse and phone on the bed and went into the bathroom. She let the water run over her body: she needed the therapeutic power of water at the moment. Her body felt weak from the night before, and if she thought about it, she could still feel the vibrations wash over her again . . . just thinking about it did that to her. She wanted to run back to Christina and have her love her again, the same way she had the night before. She wanted it to go on forever. Incredible! What an insane word, she thought with a smile, as she felt the butterflies growing in her stomach, even as the word played around in her head.

She stepped out of the shower and picked her phone to call Christina, but Christina had beat her to it. She saw a text from her: “Hey lover, last night was magical, I can’t wait to see you again. Xoxo”

Viv could have burst for all the love she felt at the moment. She couldn’t stop herself; picking her phone, she texted back: “I wish I didn’t have to work today, would have spent the entire day with you. And yes! Last night was magical!” She added a smiley emoji and hit send.

She went about the day, humming. She couldn’t remember the last time she was that cheerful. She saw colors; everything was in bright, boisterous colors. She contemplated calling in sick to work but rethought it; she had just resumed work barely three weeks earlier. She couldn’t chance losing her job to love; they were both very important at this point in her life.
